CDP Maximizes Support for Town of Clayton, Kicks Off Copper District
Craig Davis Properties Invests $1.7 Million in Elevated Water Storage Tank to Support The Copper District and Future Growth in the Town of Clayton
Craig Davis Properties, Inc. fulfills $1.7 million partnership with Town of Clayton to further desired infrastructure growth with Elevated Water Storage Tank to jumpstart Copper District.
Clayton, N.C. — March 2, 2026 – Craig Davis Properties, Inc. (CDP) announced a $1.7 million investment in a new elevated water storage tank (EST) that will serve as a critical infrastructure component for the Town of Clayton and the company’s flagship mixed‑use development, The Copper District. This financial investment is in addition to the land that CDP previously donated to the Town for the EST as well as the engineering fees for design and permitting.
This investment underscores the company’s and the Town of Clayton’s commitment to building sustainable, long‑term capacity for one of the region’s most anticipated new communities.
The EST will significantly expand Clayton’s water system capacity, improve service reliability, and enhance fire protection capabilities for much of the area along Veterans Parkway, west of downtown Clayton. For The Copper District — a transformative, multi‑phase development, set to bring new residential, commercial, entertainment, and public spaces to Clayton — the infrastructure upgrade ensures the project can grow responsibly and meet the needs of future residents, businesses, and visitors.
“As The Copper District takes shape, it’s essential that the supporting infrastructure is built to match the scale and vision of the project,” said Dean Penny, Craig Davis Properties. “This investment in Clayton’s water system is not only a commitment to the town’s future but also a foundational step in ensuring The Copper District thrives for decades to come. We’ve been hard at work on the design portion, with this being a small part of what is to come.”
Town leaders have emphasized the importance of public‑private partnerships in preparing Clayton for continued growth. The new water tower will provide the additional capacity needed to support The Copper District’s long‑term development plan, while also strengthening the broader municipal system for existing neighborhoods and future expansions throughout this area of the Clayton Community.
“Craig Davis Properties’ investment demonstrates the kind of forward‑thinking collaboration that keeps Clayton moving in the right direction,” said Rich Cappola, (Town Manager – Town of Clayton). Copper District is a major milestone for our community, and this infrastructure project ensures we are ready to support its success.”
Construction on the elevated water storage tank began this month with completion anticipated in 2027. The project marks a significant step in aligning Clayton’s infrastructure with its economic and community development goals.
